Country Radio Broadcaster’s Executive Director Ed Salamon spoke at the Canadian Country Music Association’s panel “Major and Secondary Radio Markets; Help Access The Future” during the Canadian Country Music Week convention in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. Salamon noted the growth in number of Country radio stations and the highest level of Country listenership in several years in the US, but noted challenges in competing with new audio technologies for listeners and advertisers. Regarding the loss of LA’s Country radio station, Salamon acknowledged what he feels is an incorrect perception that Country radio is not effective in reaching multicultural audiences in major markets.
Other participants in the panel, moderated by Jaye Albright of Albright and O’Malley, included Paul Larche (Larche Communications), Ted Roop (KIX 104), Jackie-Rae Greening (CFCW 11) , Steve Kassay (KX 96), Janet Trecarten (QX 104.1) and Allen Gidyd (CHFX).
